Denominations of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the largest Mormon denomination. The Community of Christ, the more liberal denomination, is the second largest. Members of the Community of Christ do not call themselves Mormons because of their belief in Polygamy and their belief that name was not a part of the original church. There are other small sects among the faith. One of them is: The Restoration Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, they split off from the Recognized Church in 1991 because of the latter’s liberal theology. They had about 2,500 members in 1996. Another sect is: United Order Effort, a polygamy practicing group. They were excommunicated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and have about 10,000 members.
